Mixed Use Residential and Commercial

Pine Towers, Enugu

Enugu, Nigeria

As cities like Enugu continue to grow, the demand for housing, workspaces, and social infrastructure increases rapidly. Much of the current response relies on sealed, generic low-to-medium rise models that ignore climate and local identity. This project proposes a different direction. A vertically integrated community that remains open, breathable, and rooted in its environment.

The Brief

To develop a multi level mixed use residential prototype that responds to increasing urban density while maintaining comfort, identity, and connection to climate. The project explores how indigenous design principles can be translated into vertical living systems, combining residential, work, and lifestyle spaces within one cohesive environment.

Design Intent

"To redefine modern multi-family living in the tropics as open, responsive, and culturally grounded. A system where density enhances life instead of compressing it. "

Vertical Community

Studios, one bedroom, and two bedroom units are organized within a layered system that integrates shared amenities, creating a connected living environment rather than isolated units.

Mixed Use Integration

Residential spaces are supported by co-working areas, a café, and wellness facilities, allowing living, working, and social interaction to coexist seamlessly.

Climate Response

Vertical fins, recessed openings, and layered facades reduce solar gain while allowing natural ventilation and filtered daylight.

Material Expression

Warm, tactile materials are applied at scale, translating indigenous architectural language into a contemporary vertical form.

Ground Activation

The base is open, landscaped, and porous, encouraging movement, interaction, and a strong relationship between building and city.

The Experience

The towers are experienced as part of a larger living system rather than At ground level, spaces are open and inviting. Within the towers, vertical movement reveals layers of living, working, and social interaction. Light is filtered, air moves naturally, and materials remain warm and human despite the scale.
